Our story

Remy’s crafts began with a much-loved miniature schnauzer and a wish to spend more time together.

After more than 20 years in the UK, most of them spent working in an office, I began to rethink everyday life. When my dog Remy turned five, I realised how little time we had together during the working week, a short while before work and a few hours each evening. I wanted to be by his side as he grew older, giving him the care and companionship he deserved.

So, in 2022, I left my job and started Remy’s crafts. Without Remy, I might never have taken that step. He is the heart behind the name, and the reason you’ll occasionally spot a schnauzer among my Japanese-inspired creations!

My craft journey began with tsumami zaiku, the Japanese art of folding small pieces of fabric into delicate shapes, often flowers. I attended a course in Japan, learning from the basics through to making traditional kanzashi hair ornaments. From earrings and hair clips to cufflinks and lapel pins, those first pieces opened up a whole new world of making.

Captivated by the beauty of Japanese chirimen fabric and its distinctive texture, I gradually expanded into clasp purses, bags, card cases and bag charms.

Whenever I visit Japan, I can never resist browsing shops filled with beautiful Japanese accessories. My hope is to bring a little of that same joy to you through this shop, with pieces I make with care here in the UK.

You can also find me at Japanese events and Christmas markets across the UK, usually four or five times a year.

Welcome to my little world of Japanese-inspired crafts!
